The British Association of Social Workers
(BASW) have announced that they will henceforward to be known as BASW – The
College of Social Work and that they are taking on all appropriate
responsibilities and duties from today, January 24th 2011.
On 7th March at the COMPASS Jobs
Fair in Birmingham, Hilton Dawson, Chief Executive will put forward these plans
and listen to social workers about this exciting development for the social
work profession. Hilton says “BASW – The College of Social Work are inviting every
social worker in the land to join them to build the College that social work in
England needs today and to build the Colleges that social workers in Northern
Ireland, Scotland and Wales will require after the elections in those countries
in May.”
“Building upon BASW’s current strengths the
organisation will be independent, led by social workers, democratically
accountable to social workers from across Britain and will be strong enough
through membership, the statutes we seek and sheer self-confidence and
assertiveness to make a difference. Members already receive a wide range of
benefits and these are set to develop further with the addition of a trade
union arm, CPD resources and materials, more publications and conferences and
events. The price of membership will be pegged near current BASW levels thus
enabling all who wish to do so to continue in membership of a general trade
union or specialist organisation.”
BASW – The College of Social Work will be
available all day to hear your views and discuss the membership benefits of
joining them.
Entrance to the COMPASS Jobs Fair is free
